"Circlie Limit III" was commissioned by the Los Angeles Electric 8. It is a 45 minute holarchical piece of spatialized music that can be interacted with at various levels. At any given moment, the audience can enjoy an immersive sound environment created by 8 guitars spread evenly around a space. With more in depth listening, one can perceive the gradual changes that keep the music in constant propulsion. Taking in the piece as a whole, an arch form emerges. Circle Limit III draws inspiration (and its title) from M.C. Escher's tesselated explorations of hyperbolic geometry, combined with composer Tom Johnston's explorations of number theory permutations.
